Summer Movie Guide 2015: 6 Geeky New Releases

The summer of 2015 is bound to be a nerd’s paradise. With titles like Avengers, Fantastic 4, and Jurassic World debuting in the coming months, there are at least a few reasons to see your friends IRL and geek out together in person.

Here are six of the biggest titles coming to theaters this summer that any self-respecting nerd can’t afford to miss:

#1 – Avengers: Age of Ultron

The much-anticipated sequel to the most successful superhero movie of all time is almost here.  In Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Avengers must work together to defeat Ultron to save the human race from extinction. Featuring the same heroes we’ve grown to love and a few newcomers, this premiere is going to be a must-see for comic fans.

Release Date: May 1st

#2 – Jurassic World

Set 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park, the fourth film in the franchise centers around a dinosaur-themed island resort called Jurassic World. Facing plummeting admission rates, the resort invests in a new creation: a genetically modified hybrid. Though the trailer only teases us with the appearance of this creation, Jurassic World seems to capture the same terror and intrigue as the original with the promise of improved dino CGI.

Release Date: June 12th

#3 – Terminator: Genisys

Arnold Schwarzenegger is back – again. Except this time, it’s in a whole new franchise.

Remember Terminator: Salvation back in 2009? Forget about it. Terminator: Genisys is set in a different timeline, with Sarah Connor orphaned and raised by a reprogrammed T-800 cyborg (Schwarzenegger). Determined to prevent the future judgement day, Connor teams up with the T-800 and an ally sent back in time to protect her. Their enemy? Her future son, John Connor.

Release Date: July 1st

#4 – Ant-Man

Despite facing some serious production issues, Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man is set to release this summer. The film’s premise is far greater than the title – A formerly imprisoned burglar is transformed when a genius inventor gives him a second chance. His suit gives him the ability to control hordes of ants and superhuman strength, and with it he’ll be forced to pull off a heist to save the world.

Release Date: July 17th

#5 – Pixels

Pixels is the ultimate throwback for retro gamers. Adam Sandler and Kevin James star in this action comedy based on Earth being attacked by classic video game characters. After stumbling upon a time capsule with various elements of Earth’s culture, aliens misinterpret video game footage as a declaration of war. The President (James) enlists a former arcade champion (Sandler) to save the world from the onslaught of deadly video game characters.

Release Date: July 24th

#6 – Fantastic Four

This Fantastic Four reboot is one of Hollywood critics’ most highly speculated films on our list, but not undeservedly. Comic book fans are embracing it cautiously, due to some major character changes and the director openly admitting that the film would not be based on the comics. Still, the younger cast and gritty storyline has potential to revive the series in the same way Christopher Nolan reprised the Batman trilogy.

Release Date: August 7th

And of course, we also can’t forget to mention that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to be released on December 18th of this year. Get your lightsabers ready.
